proposal & facilities

so much more than just a playing surface!

The Proposal

The Clem Jones Sports Centre in Carina has agreed to be the home ground for the Easts Hockey Club. This will provide the club with a much needed home base. The Hockey Club fileds will be located on one of the sports ovals in the sports centre, just south of the bowls club. The oval is currently used by the cricket club and as part of the agreement the cricket club will be moved to an adjacent oval and will be provided with a new wicket and use of existing change facilities.

There is currently an existing services road running between the clubhouse and the oval which has been proposed to be closed and a new service road between the ovals to be created to form a "ring road".

The plan for the Hockey development is to provide:

  • Two Hockey Fields
  • An Upgraded and Extended Change facilities
  • Mini Grandstand Seating
  • Refurbishments and extensions to the existing Bowls Club

The Bowls Club, due to low patronage, is now part of the Clem Jones Sports Centre and is envisioned to benefit from usage by the Hockey Club.

The Facilities

One of the new hockey fields will be a fully equipped tournament quality field including an approved wet surface, lighting technical benches and dugouts. The other will be a grass field used for training purposes.

Existing change facilities on the west side of the new fields will be extended to include a female change room. This lowset building also houses netball change facilities and a canteen. Both of these uses are proposed to remain. over time the netball end of the building could also include grandstand seating and a new roof.

View towards club house

The clubhouse is proposed to be refurbished with one end of the building opened out to overlook the new hockey fields. At the man level a new large deck is proposed. At the lower level existing meeting rooms could be extended and opened up onto a new paved area. The existing car park for the bowls club will also be extended for use by the hockey Club.

Deck View

Between the lowset change rooms buildings and the clubhouse is a height difference of over 5 metres. To combat this, and to encourage players and supporters to stay on after matches and mingle, a number of large, linked platforms with inbuilt terrace seating are proposed. The first platform is at the level of the change room building, the second platform is approximately one metre above this, with another half a metre to the car park level and Clubhouse meeting rooms.

As well as terrace seating and steps, ramps providing equal access would be incorporated. The deck and main floor of the Clubhouse are approximately three metre higher again. A lift providing equal access and a new way to enter the Bowls Club is proposed.
